In its second annual Race and Ethnicity in Public Relations and Communications Benchmark Report, the Diversity Action Alliance, a coalition of industry leaders, revealed key insights. The data indicated an 8% increase in diversity across organizations and position levels in 2021 compared to 2020.
Racial and ethnic representation also saw a slight improvement, with 27% of employees being racially and ethnically diverse in 2021. However, diversity remained limited at executive and top leadership levels, with 81% being white.
Promotion rates for diverse employees saw a decline from 38% in 2020 to 25% in 2021. The report emphasized the importance of senior leadership involvement in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
The DAA plans to release a new report with 2022 data this fall.
