The stage is set. Tonight at 8:00 PM EST, the country will be watching as the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack holds its first public hearing. There are plans for as many as six nationally televised hearings examining how some sought to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

We are expected to hear from new witnesses and be presented never before seen materials uncovered by the committee. The committee can offer recommendations to the Justice Department but cannot initiate criminal prosecutions.

Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin said he hopes the hearing “communicates the absolute gravity and immensity of these events, as well as how bloody dangerous it was for everybody who was present.”

Republican Jim Jordan felt otherwise, calling the hearings a “completely choreographed presentation” and “completely partisan.”
