Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed an updated indictment against former President Donald Trump, adjusting the charges related to Trump’s alleged effort to overturn the 2020 election. The move comes after the Supreme Court ruled that presidents have broad immunity for official acts, forcing Smith to remove allegations that Trump misused the Justice Department to support false claims of voter fraud.

The new indictment still charges Trump for trying to obstruct the election, but it now focuses on actions Trump allegedly took in a private capacity rather than as president. Trump has responded, calling the updated indictment ridiculous and claiming it is an attempt to interfere with the upcoming election.

Despite these adjustments, legal experts suggest the case remains strong, but it could face further legal battles that may ultimately need to be resolved by the Supreme Court.
