(AURN News) — Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, is drawing a sharp contrast between war spending and health care at home.
Green is marking 16 years since the Affordable Care Act by questioning why the U.S. is considering pouring another $200 billion into the conflict with Iran while millions of Americans still struggle to afford care and basic necessities.
Green says that same $200 billion could fund more than six years of Affordable Care Act subsidies, helping families lower premiums, support seniors and ease costs for working Americans already burdened by rising food prices.
He also made clear he will not support a standalone $200 billion war supplemental, describing it as unacceptable.
He argues Americans are being forced to choose between health care and putting food on the table. Democrats like Green say the bigger question is what the country’s real priorities are.
