Coalition Launches Push to Mobilize 100,000 Black Men to Vote

(AURN News) — A national coalition aims to mobilize 100,000 Black men to vote, with a week of action beginning today. The effort builds toward the inaugural National Black Man Voter Day on Saturday, Oct. 24. The NAACP, National Urban League, 100 Black Men of America, Black Men Vote and Woke Vote are leading the nonpartisan campaign.

Organizers say more than 5,000 Black men have already participated in the national organizing effort. Now they’re helping participants make voting plans, arranging transportation and coordinating neighborhood outreach.

Barbershops, churches and campuses will serve as gathering places for community conversations and local organizing activities. Saturday’s activities will also include group trips to the polls in states where early voting is available.

In states without standard early voting, organizers will provide information on absentee voting and Election Day participation.

Mike Bland, executive director of Black Men Vote, said the larger mission is building political power and holding elected officials accountable beyond this election.
