Today marks a significant moment in politics as President Biden officially announces his reelection bid in a video, framing his run as a fight for American democracy as the possibility of a rematch against Donald Trump looms large.
In the video, Biden said, “Personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans. There’s nothing more important, nothing more sacred. That’s been the work of my first term, to fight for our democracy.”
The president passionately addressed the ongoing battle for what he calls the “soul of America,” highlighting the threats posed by MAGA extremists.
“Around the country, MAGA extremists are lining up to take on those bedrock freedoms. Cutting social security that you paid for your entire life, while cutting taxes from the very wealthy, dictating what healthcare decisions women can make, banning books, and telling people who they can love. All why making it more difficult for you to be able to vote,” Biden said.
Entering his reelection bid with a 41% approval rating, two points down from his predecessor, Biden positions himself as the nation’s best hope. He aims to defeat his Republican opponent and solidify his administration’s successes.
“That’s why I’m running for reelection because I know America,” Biden added.
