To address the underrepresentation of Black individuals in the craft brewing industry, a group of determined Black entrepreneurs has announced the establishment of the National Black Brewers Association at the Annual Craft Brewers Conference in Nashville, TN this week.
With only about 1% of the nearly 10,000 craft brewers in the country being Black individuals, the organization aims to promote the Black brewing community, increase diversity at all levels of production, advocate for effective policies, and celebrate the historical legacy of African American influence on brewing in the U.S.
The National Black Brewers Association has a Board of Directors that includes notable figures such as Celeste Beatty, the first Black female brewer in the U.S., and Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery.
The group says it plans to sponsor special programs and events to further its mission of fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the beer industry and beyond.
