Jamie Jackson: January Marks 100 Years Since Rosewood Massacre

Do you know the story of rosewood? The town in Levy County, Florida where In January 1923, a racially motivated attack destroyed the predominantly black town. According to the Descendants of Rosewood Foundation, the massacre has been discussed and dissected for years. The organization says that despite being terrorized by the tragic events, survivors and descendants were eventually able to get justice. They became the first African Americans to receive reparations from a legislative body here in the United States. The Descendants of Rosewood Foundation recently announced details surrounding the commemoration events that will take place to mark the 100th anniversary of the massacre. The week-long commemoration will take place at the University of Florida in Gainesville beginning on January 8th.
