Congress passed two major bills late in the evening on March 3.
The House approved H.R. 1, which is a government and elections reform bill to protect voter rights. The House also approved the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Two Democrats Jared Golden (D-ME) and Ron Kind (D-WI) joined all Republicans in voting against the bill.
George Floyd Justice in Policing Act bans choke holds and no-knock warrants in drug cases and reforms qualified immunity, making it easier to pursue claims against police officers in civil court.
Both bills go to the Senate where Democrats have a slim majority. However, there are concerns West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin will vote against both bills.
