Shortly after graduating, he secured his first role in Alex Haley’s “Roots,” marking the beginning of his illustrious career. Burton gained fame for his portrayal of Kunta Kinte in the iconic mini-series. His performance earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series.
Burton’s achievements extended beyond acting; he garnered 12 Emmy Awards as the host and executive producer of “Reading Rainbow,” which aired for 23 seasons.
