(AURN News) — On June 25, 2009, the world lost one of its most iconic entertainers when Michael Jackson died at age 50 after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Los Angeles.

His sudden death shocked millions and sparked a global outpouring of grief. Tributes poured in from fans, celebrities, and world leaders alike, cementing his legacy as a once-in-a-generation artist whose impact still echoes more than a decade later.

Jackson began his path to stardom at the tender age of five, performing and rising to fame as the lead singer of his family band, The Jackson 5, alongside his brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon.

As a solo artist, the “King of Pop” became one of the most successful entertainers of all time, selling more than 750 million records worldwide. He transformed music, dance, and pop culture with groundbreaking hits like “Billie Jean” and “Beat It,” and released “Thriller,” the best-selling album of all time.

Jackson’s cardiac arrest was caused by acute propofol intoxication while under the care of his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray. Dr. Murray was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter for administering the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives that caused Jackson’s death.

Michael Jackson’s legacy endures today; “MJ the Musical” has been on Broadway since 2021, and the biographical film “Michael,” starring his nephew Jaafar Jackson, was released in April 2026.
