The Biden-Harris administration officially has the lowest Black unemployment rate in recorded history. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the unemployment rate for African Americans declined to 4.7% in April.
It is also the first time in history that the Black unemployment rate has been this close to whites, which is 3.2% – only a 1.5% difference. It is another historic win for the Biden-Harris administration.
In June 2021, for the first time in history, the Black workers’ labor force participation rate surpassed whites. Historically, the Black unemployment rate has been twice the white unemployment rate since 1972 when employment data was recorded by race, according to the Center for American Progress.
