(AURN News) — Michael Jackson made history after the release of the “Michael” biopic, with his solo catalog earning 137.5 million official on-demand U.S. streams during the week of April 24-30, according to Billboard.

The total was up 146% from the previous week and more than doubled Jackson’s previous career high.

The surge pushed Jackson from No. 29 to No. 3 on the Billboard Artist 100, while “Thriller” re-entered the Billboard 200 at No. 7 with 45,000 equivalent album units.

“Billie Jean” also returned to the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 38.

The historic streaming week came as the biopic delivered a record-breaking box office debut.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson, “Michael” opened with $97 million domestically and $218.8 million worldwide, marking the biggest opening ever for a biopic.
