(AURN News) — U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., who said “Daddy’s back” about President Donald Trump’s return to office in January 2025, has now removed several prominent references to Trump from his campaign website.
Gone are the “Trump Endorsed” banner, photos with the president and “Enact the Trump Agenda” from his list of priorities.
Trump’s endorsement now appears in a rotating banner alongside endorsements from Elon Musk and House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Referring to coverage suggesting he was distancing himself from Trump, Donalds called it “the weirdest story I have ever seen this political cycle.” He said the website redesign had been in the works for about two months and was intended to highlight issues including affordability.
Donalds’ Democratic opponent, former U.S. Rep. David Jolly, rejected that explanation. Jolly’s campaign called the redesign a desperate attempt to distance Donalds from Trump, saying he remains “nothing more than Trump’s yes man.”
Jolly said he hopes Trump and Donalds campaign together in Florida.
A new survey from Florida-based polling firm St. Pete Polls has the race in a statistical tie, with Donalds at 44% and Jolly at 43%.
Election Day is Nov. 3. The question now is whether Trump will take notice of the changes.
