FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr recently issued an important warning about TikTok. In a tweet, Carr talked about how China uses the app to spy on Americans. He said it harvests swaths of sensitive data that new reports show are being accessed in Beijing.
In a letter to Apple and Google, he asked the companies to remove TikTok from their app stores. Carr also said if they do not pull the popular social media app, they should explain why China accessing private and sensitive user data from Americans does not violate their respective company policies. Google and Apple have until July 8th to respond.
TikTok is not just another video app.

I’ve called on @Apple & @Google to remove TikTok from their app stores for its pattern of surreptitious data practices. pic.twitter.com/Le01fBpNjn
BuzzFeed filed a report earlier this month blowing the whistle on U.S. user data being accessed from China.
