Mary J Blige, 45, found the time to stop by the Loose Women studio in London on Friday before jetting back to the US to continue her tour. The Family Affair singer revealed how she has suffered similar demons to those of her late contemporaries Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse, only to turn things around.
Mary told the panel that she felt great, but added
I was there. I had a dark period but you have to choose life.
While admitting she couldn’t speak for them, she said:
I don’t know how strong or weak they were. When you actually see death you choose life.
Amy tragically died aged just 27 in 2011, following years of addiction troubles, while Whitney drowned in a hotel bathtub in 2012 aged 48.
Mary is currently undergoing personal drama, divorcing husband and manager Kendu Isaacs, 49. Mary told the panel how she thought she knew Kendu, but the reality is she didn’t. Blige, who filed for divorce in July, recently asked the court to delay a spousal support hearing to February so she and her lawyer can be in attendance. The hearing has been scheduled for December. Isaacs claims that if the hearing isn’t held in December, he will run out of money because Blige fired him from his role as personal manager, leaving him with ‘no source of income’.
