(AURN News) — The Potter’s House in Dallas is using scholarships, college support and dorm room makeovers to help change the lives of students across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
TPH Outreach announced new projects to support young people heading to college, including covering one incoming student’s first semester at the University of North Texas, transforming dorm rooms for foster youth and awarding scholarships to high school students attending historically Black colleges and universities.
The effort is focused on students who may be starting college without the same financial support, family structure or resources as some of their classmates.
TPH Outreach has partnered with The HBCU Project to award scholarships to five high school seniors attending HBCUs.
The organization also helped 10 students in foster care during freshman move-in day at UNT. Interior designers and volunteers furnished and designed the students’ dorm rooms, giving them a stronger start as they begin college.
For many students, the first semester of college can come with financial pressure, uncertainty and the challenge of adjusting to a new environment. For students coming out of foster care, that transition can be even more difficult.
TPH Outreach says the goal is to make sure those students are not walking into that next chapter alone.
The projects are part of a larger push to help students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area not only get to college but also feel supported once they arrive.
