(AURN News) — The headlines may have gotten quieter when it comes to tariffs, but the impact is still being felt by businesses and consumers.

New data from We Pay the Tariffs shows that since March 2025, businesses and consumers have paid $317 billion in extra tariffs.

“In the month of May 2026 alone, tariff collections reached $22 billion on $305 billion in imports, compared to just $7.1 billion in February 2025,” the grassroots coalition said.

“The administration’s temporary Section 122 tariffs, a 10 percent surcharge on imports from virtually every country, are set to expire on July 24. The administration has signaled it will replace them with permanent Section 301 tariffs in late July, adding new costs on top of the hundreds of billions of dollars businesses have already paid,” the coalition added.

The effects are also being felt differently across the country. From March 2025 through April 2026, California accounted for $55 billion in tariffs paid, followed by Texas at $33 billion and Michigan at $21 billion.
