Florida, Texas Republicans Sign Bills Restricting Voting Access

Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed new measures which include limits on drop boxes and restrictions on third party voting. Texas lawmakers are acting swiftly to enact further restrictions in what is already the most difficult state to vote nationwide.

Civil Rights groups have been swift to take action as the NAACP filed suit against Florida. Barbara Arnwine of the Transformative Justice Coalition called for a day of action on May 8.

The new election bill signed by Gov. DeSantis is a blatant and calculated attack on the right to vote. We should be working to expand access to voting, as opposed to restricting and limiting it. This is a horrifying reminder at the fragility of democracy. #SB90
