After years of rising fear and intense debate over immigration, the tone in America has shifted. According to a new Gallup poll, just 30% of Americans now say immigration should be decreased — nearly half the number from a year ago.
Seventy-nine percent, a record high, say immigration is a good thing for the country. That’s a big reversal from 2024, when the border crisis dominated headlines and hardened public opinion.
Now, with illegal crossings down sharply and President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan underway, voters across party lines — even Republicans — are softening their stance.
Meanwhile, support for offering undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship has jumped to 78%, and it climbs even higher for Dreamers.
The key point: While Trump touts tough-on-immigration wins, most Americans disapprove of how he is handling it, especially Hispanics, where his approval is just 21%.
Voters are saying loud and clear they want practical, humane solutions.
