In a typical flash of humor, he thanked Michelle for standing by him in civilian life, telling the room jokingly it ‘wasn’t clear’ whether she’d leave him too after vacating the White House. ‘I also want to thank Michelle Obama for, after the presidency, sticking with me!’ ‘I think she felt an obligation to the country to stay on but once her official duties were over, it wasn’t clear,’ he said, prompting enthusiastic laughter from the well-heeled crowd.
