Barack Obama gave special mention to his wife on Sunday as he received the prestigious JFK Profile in Courage Award. In a typical flash of humor, he thanked Michelle for standing by him in civilian life, telling the room jokingly it ‘wasn’t clear’ whether she’d leave him too after vacating the White House. ‘I also want to thank Michelle Obama for, after the presidency, sticking with me!’ ‘I think she felt an obligation to the country to stay on but once her official duties were over, it wasn’t clear,’ he said, prompting enthusiastic laughter from the well-heeled crowd. More seriously, he continued: ‘I love my wife and I’m grateful for her. And I do believe it was American’s great good fortune to have her as first lady.
