On November 18 1992, Spike Lee’s Malcolm X opened in theaters. Based on the book by Alex Haley, the film version of Malcolm X’s life is considered one of the greatest biopics of all time. Denzel Washington delivered a dynamic performance in the film which also included Angela Bassett as Betty Shabazz and Delroy Lindo as West Indian Archie. The film grossed over 55 million dollars at the box office and in 2012, the Library of Congress selected the movie to be preserved as part of its National Film Registry.
